The popularity of customized evening wear

Dinner dress now is about playing with the rules somewhat that utterly disregarding them, says Fokke de Jong, owner of Dutch tailoring range Suit Supply, which sells a linen smoking jacket designed to be worn with dark denim. It has to be black and, recognizably, a nod to the traditions of dinner dress, apart from those parameters there’s a big urge to wear something different.

Designers have responded to the change in come near by offering takes on the tuxedo as diverse as Burberry’s double-breasted style in crushed green velvet Dolce & Gabbana’s quilted dinner suit, and DSquared’s jacket with cropped tails Black tie touches have also been adopted for day wear, see designs from Paul Smith and Lanvin, blurring the split between casual and formal wear and encouraging the actualization of black tie.
